It was founded by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who laid the foundation stone for Gomal University in DI Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Prime Minister Bhutto laid the foundation stone of Gomal University on May 1, 1974, and pursued his policy of a highly educated Pakistan to meet modern global challenges in all walks of life.

The donation and land were provided by Nawabullah Nawaz Khan, who served as the University’s first and founding vice-chancellor. Nawaz Khan had donated 11,000 Kn of agricultural land for the establishment of the university.

Currently, the University of Gomal has announced new vacancies through its Announcement No. 07/2022. The University is seeking applications to hire non-teaching teaching staff.
