Sasta Petrol, Sasta Diesel 2000 Rs relief package announced Those with a family income below PKR 40,000 per month can take advantage of this scheme. On Saturday, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail announced the criteria for making use of the ‘Sasta Petrol, Sasta Diesel’ aid package. People whose family income was less than PKR 40,000 a month can text their CNIC (computerized national identity document) numbers to 786 or call to receive PKR 2,000.

Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad, Miftah said the government’s aid package will help protect the poor from the “storm of inflation.”

“We cannot provide complete relief as we do not have the resources, but we will do our best to heal the wounds of the poor,” he added.

He clarified that the aid package was not limited to motorcycle owners, but included anyone whose monthly family income was less than PKR 40,000. People who were already beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Program will automatically receive this amount since the government already has their data, he added.

Ismail said that 14 million households will benefit from this package. “PKR 2000 will be delivered in June and it will cost the government PKR 28 billion. In addition to the 3.3 million BISP beneficiaries, this [package] covers 6.7 million households with poverty scores below 37, he said, as reported by APP.

The plan was announced yesterday by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif after the sharp rise in gasoline prices.
